Cathay Pacific is Now Hiring!

Ever wanted to work for one of the most iconic and prestigious Asian airlines? Well, you are in luck! The famous Cathay Pacific has resumed hiring First Officer direct entry candidates! Read on to learn more…

After a long hiatus due to COVID shutdowns in Hong Kong, the famous Cathay Pacific Airways has resume hiring candidates for direct entry as First Officers. This is a big deal, since Cathay normally only hired candidates for direct entry as Second Officers and Cadets. (Cathay is not currently hiring for Cadet or SO entry).

So, what do you need to become a First Officer for Cathay Pacific?

Cathay has surprised many by keeping their FO requirements much lower than usual. Cathay is currently asking for candidates with the following aeronautical credentials and experience:

  • Airline Transport Pilot Licence (ATPL) or Commercial Pilot Licence (CPL) with a Multi Engine Instrument Rating (MEIR)

  • ICAO CPL holders must have at least 1500 hours TT, with at least 500 hours as PIC

  • Minimum 1,500 hours total flying time for both ATPL and CPL holders

  • 500 hours on civil registered transport aircraft certified for multi-crew operations according to the type certificate and having a maximum takeoff weight (MTOW) > 45,000 kg

  • Valid Class 1 Medical Certificate

  • ICAO English language proficiency Level 4 or above

How to obtain these qualifications?

There are several ways to obtain such qualifications and experience. To obtain, specifically, the aforementioned licensing and experience for Cathay’s First Officer direct entry program, including a full ICAO ATPL, 500 hours PIC and 500 hours on a jet with MTOW over 45 tonnes, we recommend our FPAP-C (for international students), or FPAP-IND (optimized for Indian students) or PA-ATP-C (for CPL holders) program.

These programs in Canada can afford the enrolled students an opportunity to build extensive flight time by using the PGWP (post-graduate work permit) after completion of the study period for employment as flight instructors on propeller aircraft; followed by CEC (Canadian Experience Class) application for employment permit in the Canadian airlines as First Officers. Many airlines in Canada operate aircraft with MTOW (max takeoff weight) over 45 tonnes (such regional airlines include WestJet, Air Transat, Rouge, and many more). After achieving the required aeronautical experience by working in Canada, pilots can then apply for direct entry First Officer employment with Cathay Pacific.
